Police continues drug raids in Northern Division

More than 1,200 plants believed to be marijuana were seized during the second phase of drug raids in the Northern Division yesterday.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said eight people are now in custody for their alleged involvement in the cultivation of marijuana.

Two reports were received at the Tukavesi Police Station where 956 plants believed to be marijuana were uprooted from two separate farms.

A plastic containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana was also confiscated from one of the farms.

In the third report lodged at the Savusavu Police Station, 265 plants believed to be marijuana were uprooted from six different farms.

Naisoro added the Fiji Police Force analyst is now at the Labasa Police Station conducting analysis on the plants and dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

Chief of Operations ACP Rusiate Tudravu earlier said the Fiji Police analyst is conducting the analysis of the plants confiscated so that charges can be laid immediately and the suspects be produced in court.

The Police team will be moving to other divisions in the coming weeks.
