Vessel grounded in Lau, MV Bai ni Takali to depart Suva tomorrow

The vessel that ran aground at Namuka boat passage in Lau remains grounded, with Government vessel MV Bai ni Takali scheduled to depart Suva tomorrow to provide essential services to the affected community.

The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji confirms the vessel ran aground at approximately 6.30am on Wednesday.

MSAF says all passengers onboard are safe and there have been no reported injuries from the incident.

They say the vessel's crew conducted an initial inspection using diving equipment available onboard to assess the extent of the grounding and any potential damage.

MSAF says the crew, together with relevant Government officials, are working towards carrying out the necessary repairs to enable the vessel to resume normal operations.

They also confirm that as a contingency measure, MV Bai ni Takali is scheduled to depart Suva tomorrow for Namuka, Lau.

MSAF adds the vessel's deployment is intended to ensure continuity of essential services and support to the affected community.
