Local communities in Rakiraki are set to benefit from improved and safer facilities, following the commissioning of four community-based projects supported by the Government.
The projects include upgrades to the Madhuvani Hindu Cemetery and Wairuku Cemetery, fencing at Ellington Vishnu Mandir and renovations to the Volivoli Ramayan Mandali.
The cemetery upgrades are expected to provide cleaner, safer and better-maintained burial areas for families, while the temple fencing will improve security and privacy.
The renovation of the Volivoli Ramayan Mandali will also provide a better space for religious activities, gatherings and other community events.
Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts Charan Jeath Singh is in Rakiraki today to officially commission the projects.
The projects are being supported through the Multi-Ethnic Community Development Grant Programme.
The Government says the programme supports projects identified by communities and encourages residents and community organisations to take part in local development.
It says the initiative is aimed at improving community facilities and providing practical support that benefits people at the grassroots level.
