It has been three years that the Waka family in Seaqaqa, Vanua Levu, has been waiting for access to clean and safe drinking water; despite visits from the Water Authority of Fiji and discussions about possible solutions, nothing has changed for this family.
Jonathan Batisarisari, a Canadian and Fiji resident, and owner of the social media page the Waka family, has been documenting the dirty water running in his area for the last 3 years.
Batisarisari says it is difficult to understand how a village located just 2 kilometres from Seaqaqa, where the nearest water treatment facility is situated, can still be without access to clean drinking water and reliable electricity.
He says for three years, his family and many others have depended on water from a source they say is contaminated, raising serious concerns about their health, safety, and everyday living conditions.
Batisarisari says there have been many discussions and ideas, but no action.
He says his family is not looking to blame anyone, but they are simply asking for what every Fijian family deserves, which is access to clean drinking water and basic essential services.
We have reached out to the WAF this morning and are waiting for their response.
