The Ministry of Education has advised all Principals and Heads of Schools in Fiji that from the beginning of the upcoming school year they will be sharing teaching loads as well.

This means that Head Teachers and Principals in Fiji will now be required to spend a certain amount of time teaching in addition to their other duties.

The Ministry says this will be in accordance with the Head Teachers and Principals revised role descriptions which have been approved by the Permanent Secretary for Education Alison Burchell and endorsed by the Minister for Education Rosy Akbar.

The Head Teacher of a small primary school is required to share half of a full teaching load, the Head Teacher of a medium-sized primary school is required to share a quarter of a full teaching load while the Head Teacher of a large primary school will be sharing 20 percent of a full teaching load.

The Principal of a small secondary school will be required to share half of the full teaching load, the Principal of a medium-sized secondary school is now required to share a quarter of the teaching load while the Principal of a large secondary school will be sharing 20 percent of the full teaching load.

We are currently trying to get in touch with Permanent Secretary for Education, the Fiji Teachers Union and the Fijian Teachers Association regarding the revised roles of Head Teachers and Principals in Fiji.
