A new champion will be crowned in the Extra Supermarket Battle of the Giants despite defending champions Extra Supermarket Labasa beating Blue Gas Navua 2-1.
Labasa needed to beat Navua by at least four clear goals to keep their semi-final hopes alive, but they were unable to.
Things went from bad to worse after Ilaisa Nayasi for the Babasiga Lions was shown a direct red card in the first half.
Christopher Wasasala scored twice for Labasa while Sunny Deol scored for Navua.
Three goals by Navua were disallowed for offside.
Labasa started their campaign strongly with a 1-0 win over Nasinu in their opening pool match but suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Global Care Suva yesterday.
The result means Nasinu finish as Group A runners-up with six points.
So far, Stratum/PPCL Rewa, Global Care Suva and Nasinu have secured their places in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, in the final pool match, hosts Dayal’s Steel Ba are playing Lautoka.
Lautoka needs a draw to qualify for the semi-finals while Ba needs to win.
