People are being reminded to stop sharing abusive and humiliating content on social media.

Minister for Policing and Communications Ioane Naivalurua says he is concerned about the increasingly degrading and abusive material being published online.

Naivalurua says personal attacks, cruel comments, humiliating photos and videos, and graphic content are being shared with little thought for the people affected.

The Minister says too often, another person's embarrassment or suffering is treated as entertainment.

Naivalurua says this must stop, as the trauma caused can continue long after a post has been deleted.

He is urging everyone to stop posting, sharing and forwarding intimate or degrading content.

He says parents, teachers, community leaders and all social media users have a part to play in preventing online abuse.

If you are affected by online harm and require assistance then you can contact the Online Safety Commission on 1548.
