All Government agencies, businesses and civil society organisations are being urged to remain vigilant, maintain appropriate cybersecurity safeguards and continuously monitor their networks for suspicious activity.
This comes after US Embassy informed the Fijian Government of a suspected cyber attack on a regional organisation based in Suva where hackers linked to China believed to have accessed the organisation’s network for several days.
The Ministry of Policing and Communications says the Government was formally notified of the suspected cybersecurity incident by the US Embassy.
They say officials from the Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade met with Embassy representatives to discuss the matter.
The Ministry says the Fiji Computer Emergency Response Team, is assessing the reported incident and monitoring developments.
They say Fiji CERT has established contact with the regional organisation and stands ready to provide assistance and coordinate an appropriate response.
The Ministry says at this stage, it would be premature to comment further on the specific details of the incident.
They add any cybersecurity incident or suspected cyberattack should be reported promptly to Fiji CERT through fiji-cert@digitalfiji.gov.fj or 2296765.
The Ministry adds the Fiji Government remains committed to safeguarding Fiji’s digital environment, strengthening national cybersecurity resilience and supporting regional cooperation in addressing emerging cyber threats.
