Concerns raised of drugs openly being sold in Sigatoka Town, Police say to contact them
Sigatoka Town
Following concerns raised about drugs being openly sold in Sigatoka Town and the lack of police patrols in Sigatoka Town, Police are encouraging anyone with grievances to address them to officers either at the Vunahalu Community Post, the Police Station, or through 1681.

Speaking to fijivillage News, Sigatoka Market Vendors Association President Krishna Sharma says drugs are openly being sold in Sigatoka Town and sometimes in the market as well.

He says the issue of drugs is very serious and he does not believe it can be completely resolved.

Sharma says there are not many police patrols in the town area and is calling for increased police presence, especially within the town boundary.

He says there are sometimes only one or two officers on foot patrol in the town, and if the numbers increase, it could reduce criminal activity within the town.

While responding to questions by fijivillage News, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Kasiano Vusonilawe says there has been a 19 percent decrease in overall crime and a 22 percent decrease in serious crime in the Sigatoka area.

He says there is a Fiji Police Force investment in the Sigatoka area of a new post namely the Vunahalu Community Post with a manpower of 10.
