Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica has called on former Fiji Broadcasting Corporation CEO Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum to base his comments on facts and avoid making inflammatory remarks.
This is after Sayed-Khaiyum claimed during the Fijian Media Association Town Hall Forum on the Constitution (Amendment) Bill at FNU Nasinu that the Constitution will be breached and people will be bought as the Bill will go ahead for a vote from Monday next week and that laws will be circumvented.
Sayed-Khaiyum further claimed that there is a rush to amend the Constitution because the government wants to retain its political power, as it knows it would lose badly if an election were held at this point in time.
He claims this is the general consensus among the public and that the current government is extremely unpopular.
Responding to these claims, Kamikamica says he takes exception to Sayed-Khaiyum's remarks, describing some of his comments as very irresponsible.
He emphasised that if people look back at when the process to amend the Constitution began, they will see that the government has not bent any rules.
Kamikamica also called on Sayed-Khaiyum to be responsible when making comments in public.

Responding to Sayed-Khaiyum's question about what will happen to Party MPs that go against the Party's directives, NFP Leader Professor Biman Prasad says there is that element of misinformation going around and that is creating division and disunity amongst the people.
Professor Prasad made it clear that if there is a party directive for a particular vote in Parliament and if members don't follow the directive, the constitution is very clear, and they will lose their seat in Parliament.
SODELPA Leader Aseri Radrodro says his Party has displayed democracy where everybody have expressed their opinion.
He says they have differing opinions in the past but come the day, they agree or disagree to agree.
Radrodro says the Special AGM has taken a decision but it doesn't mean that everybody agrees or disagrees.
