Questions mount after Flying Fijians' 73-8 humbling by England

Questions mount after Flying Fijians' 73-8 humbling by England

While the FIJI Water Flying Fijians are now classified as a Tier 1 team, unfortunately that status is not reflected in their opening two Tests in the Nations Championship - mainly after the embarrassing loss against England.

The Flying Fijians went down 39-24 to Wales last week in a game that they led in all the statistics but not the scoreboard.

Fiji gave away easy tries to Wales and that was also on show when they took on England this morning, a team that finally won their first game out of 6 Test matches.

The Flying Fijians were slaughtered 73-8 by a much superior Steve Borthwick coached side.

Questions are being asked by fans if there are problems within the Flying Fijians camp between Acting Coach Senirusi Seruvakula, the management, and the players leading to their dismal performances.

The Flying Fijians looked like a team that did not want to be out on that pitch.

Discipline was also an issue, with Levani Botia receiving a yellow card in the 26th minute, while halfback Simione Kuruvoli getting a permanent red card just before half-time for retaliating and kicking Ellis Genge in the chest.

With Fiji at a numerical disadvantage, England exploited the overlaps and poor defence of the maul to their advantage practically scoring at will.

The Flying Fijians scored from a penalty and an unconverted try while England ran in 11 tries.

It is hard trying to convince the rest of the world that we are a Tier 1 nation and then producing these kinds of results.

After the Wales game, FRU Chair John Sanday had stated that the players have been well-looked after and paid well, asking where is the return on investment.

Sanday said this is the urgent question, as he personally does not accept sub-par performances.

We have sent questions to Sanday on take after the game this morning and what went wrong and what will be done about it.

Sanday had earlier stated that the Management and Coaches/players are not doing this for free - so what is our return on investment.

These are top level players from around the world coming together.

While Acting Coach Senirusi Seruvakula says there are no excuses, even though the team has just had a short time training together, questions are being asked on who does the blame fall on, and what will be done.

People are also beginning to question the expenses being poured into this by Fiji Rugby taking so many personnel and sorting out the logistics for the month long trip across Europe.

This is one of the worst hits Fiji Rugby has taken.

The Flying Fijians play Scotland at 1.10am Sunday in a must win match for Seruvakula if he wants to keep his reins on the team.

Stay with us as we get those answers from Fiji Rugby.
