New borehole eases water struggles in Lalakoro, Seaqaqa
Twelve families in the Lalakoro settlement in Seaqaqa now have access to clean and safe water following the completion of a new borehole project, funded by friends and relatives living in New Zealand.

Lalakoro Community President Asqar Ali says the community has also been affected by the effects of El Niño, which has made access to water more difficult.

He says the borehole project has come at the right time and will provide much-needed support to the community.

Ali says this is a proud and happy moment for the community, as families will now have a reliable source of clean water for drinking and other daily needs.

The 75-year-old says the community has not had access to clean and safe borehole water for many years.

He says residents previously depended on wells and rivers for water, which was not always safe for drinking.

Ali says the borehole project cost about $9,000 and was fully funded by friends and relatives living in New Zealand.

He has thanked those who contributed to the project and made the clean water supply possible.

Ali says students in the community will also benefit from the project.

He says children previously had to go to the river to bathe, while families depended on wells for water.

With the new borehole, water will now be supplied to all 12 houses, making life easier for families.
