Police have seized illicit drugs and cash believed to be proceeds of crime as frontline operations and joint task force operations continue across the country.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Kasiano Vusonilawe says arrests for unlawful cultivation and unlawful possession of illicit drugs are being made by frontline officers, as well as the joint task force supported by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces in Nadi and Lautoka.
He says arrests were made this past week for alleged unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs in Savusavu and Taveuni, while arrests for unlawful possession of illicit drugs were recorded in the other four divisions.
ACP Vusonilawe says cash believed to be proceeds of crime was also seized during the operations.
In Ba, Police officers on beat patrol were about to confront three men acting suspiciously when the men fled.
Police say a plastic containing several sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana fell from one of the suspects during the chase.
They say the identities of the suspects are known to Police.
ACP Vusonilawe says operations are focused on both green and white drugs, with some of those arrested being repeat offenders.
He says support capabilities, including the Fiji Detector Dog Unit and other law enforcement stakeholders, are being deployed to strengthen efforts to curb the illicit drug trade.
