The Fiji Motorcyclists Association has clarified concerns raised about excessive noise created by a group of motorcyclists while travelling through Laucala Beach to a recently held event.
This comes after concerns were raised about excessive noise and whether bikers are allowed to ride in groups through residential areas during busy traffic periods.
The Association says its members were officially invited to participate in the event, with Police approval provided.
It says the motorcycle entry was part of an organised and controlled environment, with members participating in a Bike Show and promoting awareness of motorcycles and the motorcycling community.
The Association says while it is aware of comments regarding noise, to its knowledge, no official complaint was made to the Association or the event organisers regarding the particular incident.
It says it does not condone unnecessary noise pollution, excessive revving, reckless riding or disruptive behaviour on public roads.
The Association says it continues to encourage responsible riding and respect for all road users.
It also says performance motorcycles are naturally capable of producing significant engine noise, and controlled displays are part of showcasing the machines and creating awareness about motorcycles.
The Association says being seen and heard can also contribute to motorcycle safety by reminding other road users to be aware of motorcycles and to share the road responsibly.
It remains committed to promoting safe, responsible and respectful motorcycling and working with the Fiji Police Force, relevant authorities, event organisers and the wider community.
Meanwhile, Police are advising residents who have concerns about groups of bikers riding through residential areas and allegedly creating excessive noise to lodge a report.
