Delon Shankar has been named captain of the Fiji side for the OFC U-19 Men’s Championship 2026 in Samoa.
Shankar says he is honoured and proud to lead the national side and is grateful to the officials and coaches for trusting him with the responsibility.
The young defender says he is ready to lead the side to victory and hopes to make Fiji and their families proud.
Maikah Dau has been named vice-captain.
The OFC U-19 Men’s Championship 2026 will be held in Samoa from next Tuesday to 14th September.
Defending champions New Zealand have been drawn alongside Tahiti, Fiji and Vanuatu in Group B, while hosts Samoa are joined by 2024 runners-up New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea in Group A.
Fiji will face Vanuatu next Wednesday at 12pm in their opening pool match before taking on New Zealand next Saturday at 4pm.
Their final pool match will be against Tahiti on 8th September at 12pm at the Samoa Football HQ.
The winner and runner-up will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2027 in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
