People living along the Suva-Nausori corridor will now have easier access to immigration services following the opening of the new Nakasi Immigration Office.
The office was officially opened today and will provide key services, including passport applications and citizenship services.
Minister for Immigration Viliame Naupoto says the facility is not simply another Government office, but is intended to bring immigration services closer to the people.
Naupoto says the establishment of the office reflects the Government’s commitment to delivering public services in an efficient, accessible and convenient manner.
He says Nakasi was selected because of its strategic location between Suva and Nausori and its development into a major commercial and service hub serving communities along the densely populated corridor.
The Minister says while many citizenship services are now available online, passport applications still require applicants to appear in person for identity verification and the collection of biometric data.
Naupoto has also stressed the standard of service expected from officers working at the new facility.
He says every person who walks through the doors should be treated with dignity, respect, courtesy and professionalism.
The Nakasi office is one of two new Immigration offices being commissioned during the current financial year.
The second office in Rakiraki is nearing completion, while the Ministry also plans to establish additional offices in Sigatoka and Nabouwalu.
