Team Fiji will travel to Dakar, Senegal, with a 29-member delegation for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, with athletes set to compete across six sports.
The final delegation was announced during a press conference at the FASANOC office this morning, as Team Fiji enters its final preparation phase ahead of the Games next month.
The 29-member delegation will represent Fiji in athletics, 3x3 basketball, boxing, futsal, swimming and triathlon.
Team Fiji 3x3 basketball coach Earl Hughes says the Games present a significant opportunity for the players, who are focused on taking each opportunity as it comes.
Hughes says while the team wants to win every game, the immediate focus is on preparing well and executing what they have been working on.
He says the players are excited about representing Fiji at their first Youth Olympic Games and are determined to make the most of the opportunity.
Meanwhile, Team Fiji futsal coach Jose Gerardo says the women's national team has been selected following opportunities to assess players through the national women’s futsal league.
Gerardo says the players have contributed to the development of women’s futsal and have impressed him through their performances both indoors and outdoors.
He says he believes he has selected the best available players to represent Fiji and hopes they can bring joy and hope to fans back home.
Gerardo acknowledges that selecting a squad can come with challenges, but says he has confidence in the group chosen for the Youth Olympic Games.
The 2026 Youth Olympic Games will be held in Dakar from October 30th to November 14th.
