Speight supports RFMF submisson to remove immunity provision
George Speight, who was imprisoned for life for his actions in the May 2000 coup, says he supports the submission by the RFMF Commander to remove the immunity provision from the 2013 Constitution as it will be the starting point to change.

While making his submission to the Constitution Review Commission, Speight says he is grateful to the RFMF Commander for making that submission and he did not expect it to come from the military.

He says the 2013 Constitution is unfair and not right and the immunity is a recipe for disaster.

He adds those who wrote the 2013 Constitution know they committed wrong and they went the length to protect themselves.

Speight says the 2013 Constitution is a stumbling block.

He adds that the document has some good clauses but it is outweighed by the bad.

Speight says this document must have the confidence of the majority of those governed by it.

He also highlighted that he has accepted his actions and he has paid for it in prison.

Speight says if people want redemption or forgiveness, they will need to confess.

He adds this leads to salvation and redemption.

Speight also highlighted that he supports the work of the Fiji Truth and Reconciliation Commission but the Commission does not have teeth to go all the way it should.

He says he chose not to front the Commission.
