Parcel found at Muanikau foreshore tests positive for cocaine

A parcel found along the Muanikau foreshore in Suva has tested positive for cocaine, raising concerns as Police investigate how the suspected drug ended up on Fiji's coastline.

Police say the parcel was discovered on Monday afternoon by two men who were walking along the foreshore and alerted Police after noticing the suspicious package.

They have now confirmed laboratory tests identified the white substance inside the parcel as cocaine.

Investigations are underway to determine where the parcel came from and whether it is linked to any wider drug trafficking activity.

In a separate incident, another suspicious parcel has also been found in the Lau Group.

Police say arrangements are being made to transport the parcel to Suva for testing to determine its contents.

They are encouraging people to continue reporting suspicious items, activities and the movement of vessels at sea by calling 1681.
