14-year-old Fiji swimmer Grace Khelan has clocked a blistering 57.92 seconds to win gold in the 100 metres freestyle at the New Zealand Short Course Age Championships this morning.
The performance saw Khelan break the one-minute mark as she continues building towards the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal.
The Jai Narayan College student says she is delighted with the achievement and first thanked Almighty God for giving her the strength and wisdom to perform at her best.
She also thanked her sponsor FMF and the Orca Swim Club for giving her the opportunity to travel to New Zealand and compete internationally.
The competition is an important part of Khelan's preparations for Dakar, giving her valuable experience against international swimmers.
Her team says every race, training session and challenge is another step forward in her development.
Khelan says her focus now is to keep pushing, believing and building as she prepares for the challenges ahead.
