The iTaukei Land Trust Board says a Seaqaqa cane farmer who raised concerns about delays in receiving her land lease will receive the document next week.
This follows concerns raised by cane farmer Sheila Wati during the Special Committee on the Sugar Industry's public consultation, where she said she had already paid the lease premium but was unable to start planting cane because she had not received the lease.
Responding to questions by fijivillage News, TLTB Chief Executive Officer Solomone Nata says the lease has now been stamped by the Registrar of Titles in Suva and is being dispatched to Labasa today.
Nata says Wati is expected to receive the lease document next week.
He also apologised to the tenant for the delay.
When asked about the reason for the delay, Nata says the lease was lodged with the Registrar of Titles in May and has just been processed and returned.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who chairs the Special Committee on the Sugar Industry, had earlier requested Fiji Sugar Corporation Chief Executive Officer Bhan Singh to take Wati's details so that a response could be provided.
