The Junior Bula Boys are ready to step onto the international stage and represent Fiji at the OFC U19 Men’s Championship in Samoa.
The young players have been told to embrace the pressure and responsibility that comes with wearing the national jersey as they prepare to take on the region’s best in their bid to qualify for the FIFA U20 World Cup.
Fiji U19 Men’s National Team Head of Delegation Surend Prasad says the team is prepared for the challenge and believes the players have what it takes to represent the country with pride.
Speaking during the team’s official presentation and jersey handover, Prasad says the Junior Bula Boys understand that the road ahead will not be easy, with pressure, challenges and difficult matches expected.
He says the team has prepared well and is travelling to Samoa with a purpose — to compete, perform and create its own history in the tournament.
Prasad reminds the players that wearing the national jersey carries a responsibility to their families, Fiji FA and football supporters across the country.
He says the tournament is an opportunity for the young players to make their mark, showcase their talent and introduce themselves to the wider football world.
Prasad says talent alone will not be enough and the players will need discipline, dedication, commitment, maturity, teamwork, courage and belief.
He also acknowledged Head Coach Marika Rodu and his support staff for their work in preparing the squad and thanked the parents and guardians for the sacrifices they have made to support the players.
Fiji will face Vanuatu next Wednesday at 12pm in their opening pool match before taking on New Zealand next Saturday at 4pm.
The winner and runner-up will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2027 in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
