Pet owners and animal lovers gathered at Albert Park for the Hibiscus Dog Show and Pet Walk, with the event being used to promote better care for animals and encourage people to treat them with kindness.
Fiji SPCA Shelter Manager Shaneel Narayan says the event was organised in partnership with the Hibiscus Festival committee and was a success.
Narayan says dogs competed in eight different categories, while a week-long cat competition was also held through the organisation's social media platforms.
He says Fiji SPCA will continue its animal welfare activities throughout the Hibiscus Festival, with a booth operating during the week.
Narayan says the SPCA will use its presence at the festival to provide education and raise awareness about animal welfare, as well as carry out vaccination and other animal care programmes.
He is encouraging people attending the Hibiscus Festival to visit the booth and learn more about responsible animal care and how they can better look after their pets.
Narayan says the message Fiji SPCA wants people to take away is simple — be kind to animals.
