Taiwan provides US$2M to support Pacific Islands Forum priorities
The Taipei Trade Office in Fiji formally handed over a US$2 million development cooperation contribution to the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat during a ceremony at the Secretariat, reaffirming Taiwan's long-standing commitment to advancing regional priorities under the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.

The Taipei Trade Office says the handover ceremony was attended by their Acting Representative Jason Chih-Sheng Huang and Deputy Secretary General of Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat Esala Nayasi.

The Trade Office says the contribution, covering 2024–2025 cooperation period, will support implementation of the 2050 Strategy, institutional strengthening of the Secretariat, assistance to Smaller Island States, and collaborative initiatives undertaken through the Council of Regional Organisations of the Pacific (CROP).

They say Taiwan's broader support for the Office of the Pacific Ocean Commissioner (OPOC) and the Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF) also continues to contribute to strengthening regional cooperation and resilience.

Acting Representative Huang says the contribution demonstrates Taiwan's steadfast partnership with the Pacific Islands Forum and its commitment to supporting the Secretariat's important work.

He also reaffirmed Taiwan's readiness to deepen practical cooperation with Forum members in ways that deliver tangible benefits to Pacific peoples and support the implementation of regional priorities under the 2050 Strategy.

Deputy Secretary General Nayasi welcomed Taiwan/ Republic of China's continued support for Pacific regional priorities and expressed appreciation for the enduring partnership between Taiwan and the Pacific Islands Forum.

He noted that Taiwan's contribution reflects a shared commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and advancing the aspirations of the Blue Pacific.

The Taipei Trade Office says has maintained a long-standing partnership with the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, supporting regional initiatives that promote sustainable development, climate resilience, ocean governance, institutional capacity, and regional solidarity.

They add the latest contribution underscores Taiwan's commitment to working alongside Pacific partners in addressing shared challenges and achieving the vision set out in the 2050 Strategy.
