Youths of the Koroipita Youth Club in Lautoka are making a difference in their community by volunteering their time to improve the environment, assist vulnerable residents and strengthen community spirit.
Club members spent yesterday morning working in the community nursery, where they prepared and fertilised the soil before planting seedlings as part of their ongoing environmental initiative.
The youths also cleared a blocked drain outside the home of a single mother after soil erosion caused it to clog for several weeks, creating an unpleasant smell.
The Koroipita Youth Club says members successfully removed the blockage, making the area cleaner and safer for the family and surrounding neighbours.
President of the Koroipita Youth Club, Jotame Ratabua says the club's Dual Transformation initiative is about changing themselves while inspiring others to do the same.
Ratabua says every effort counts, and by engaging young people in community service, they are helping them channel their energy into positive actions, build confidence and become responsible leaders.
He says everything starts at home, with parents playing a vital role in raising children with strong values, respect and discipline.
Ratabua says many of the social issues Fiji faces today can be addressed by raising young people in a positive and supportive environment.
He adds that families and communities must work together to inspire the next generation to make a difference and build a stronger, safer and brighter Fiji.
After the community work, the volunteers gathered for breakfast at House 300, where parents prepared and served a meal in appreciation of their efforts.
The day concluded with friendly sports at the community sports court, giving members the opportunity to strengthen friendships, build teamwork and promote healthy lifestyles.
The Koroipita Youth Club says it is proud of its young members for their willingness to serve others, take on leadership roles and contribute positively to the community as they continue working towards building a stronger and more caring Koroipita.
