Kadavu has opened its first-ever taxi base, with the new investment expected to improve transport services, create opportunities for local communities and support tourism and economic growth on the island.
Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport Ro Filipe Tuisawau officially opened the Solo I Ra Taxi & Tours Investment Base in Namalata Village.
The Solo I Ra Taxi & Tours Investment Base has been allocated 20 taxi permits, while Valelevu Brothers Investment in Daviqele Village has been allocated 15 taxi permits.
Both taxi bases have received confirmation letters for their operations.
Speaking on behalf of Namalata Village, Isireli Nuku says they are grateful to see the opening of the first taxi base in Kadavu.
Nuku also thanked the Coalition Government for supporting the initiative and helping strengthen development in villages and communities across the island.
He says the Government's support will contribute towards improving livelihoods and the wellbeing of people in Kadavu.
The new taxi operations are also expected to provide more opportunities for local businesses and improve transport options for residents and visitors.
The investment is expected to support Kadavu's tourism sector by making it easier for people to travel around the island while creating new opportunities for economic growth.
