Investment must create more opportunities for Fijians - Kamikamica
Investment from Australian businesses must translate into jobs, skills, local business growth and new opportunities for Fijians.

This has been highlighted by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica while speaking at the Fiji-Australia and Australia-Fiji Business Council Joint Forum 2026.

Kamikamica says Fiji wants investment to contribute to skills development, knowledge transfer, innovation and commercial opportunities for its people.

He says Fiji is positioning itself as a commercial ICT and transport hub in the Pacific, with opportunities in digital services, agriculture, agro-processing, tourism, manufacturing, renewable energy, logistics, maritime and professional services.

Kamikamica says digital transformation will be central to Fiji’s economic development and competitiveness.

He says Fiji’s national digital strategy is not simply about putting Government services online, but about creating infrastructure, skills, platforms and an environment that allows businesses to innovate, reduce costs, access finance, reach new markets and compete globally.

Kamikamica says the growing presence of major technology companies in Fiji, including Google, creates opportunities to strengthen Fiji’s position as a platform for technology innovation and digital services in the Pacific.

He says KPMG now has a business processing hub in Fiji with about 280 people, including an artificial intelligence component.

Kamikamica says Fiji’s ambition is to allow international technology companies to invest while enabling MSMEs, startups and entrepreneurs to adopt technology, improve productivity and reach customers beyond Fiji.

Kamikamica says he also hopes to resume discussions with Australian cybersecurity company CyberCX about potentially establishing a hub in Fiji.

He says commercial agriculture is another area where investment can create opportunities for Fiji.

He says one of the first projects of the Commercial Agriculture Task Force is the onboarding of Fiji Water for its commercial agriculture initiatives, with its first citrus trees expected to be planted in Labasa next month.

Kamikamica also highlighted a 120-acre coffee farm in Rakiraki established by a Canberra-based specialty coffee company.

Kamikamica says the company plans to expand plantations into other areas where the coffee is already growing and believes there could potentially be a $50 million industry in the next decade with the right support from Government.

He says the Government is therefore looking at labour mobility, skilled migration, technical expertise and executive mobility while continuing to develop and prioritise Fiji’s own workforce.

Kamikamica says MSMEs are also central to Fiji’s economy, employing people and supporting families and communities.

Kamikamica says Australian businesses can support this not only through investment, but also through technology, knowledge, standards, market access and commercial partnerships.

He says the Government is also strengthening investment facilitation mechanisms to address approval delays and regulatory issues affecting projects.

Kamikamica says the Investment Facilitation Committee brings key Government agencies together and is available to both foreign and local investors.
