The Fiji Media Association received a major boost towards the preparation for hosting the Pacific Media Summit 2026 after the government provided $27,000 from the Ministry of Information’s budget.
The signing was done today by the Minister of Information, Lynda Tabuya, and the President of the Fiji Media Association, Rosi Doviverata.
Tabuya says this contribution reflects the Government’s recognition of the important role the media plays in our society and our wider Pacific region.
She says their support is about more than providing financial assistance; it is an investment in the strength, resilience, professionalism and future of Pacific media.
Tabuya says the theme of this year’s Summit, Reaching the Remote: Media and Digital Innovation for a Connected Blue Pacific, is both timely and important.
She says while they recognise the many benefits technology has brought to societies, they must also acknowledge the challenges that come with a rapidly changing information environment.
Tabuya stresses that people are exposed to an overwhelming amount of information every day and it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between what is accurate, what is misleading and what can truly be trusted.
She says the rapid development of artificial intelligence has created exciting new opportunities in the way we create, access, and share information, and at the same time, it has also made it easier for misinformation, disinformation, and manipulated content to reach people quickly and on a much greater scale.
Tabuya says the media must continue to provide trusted information, uphold professional and ethical standards, and help our communities navigate an increasingly complex digital environment.

FMA President Rosi Doviverata thanked the Minister and the government for the sponsorship.
She says FMA welcomes the government's support while at the same time maintaining the independence to report fairly.
The Pacific Media Summit 2026 will be held in Savusavu from the 21st to the 25th of this month.
