It is a big dog day out as the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is calling on all Fijians to participate in the Tim Howick-Smith 1000 Paws Walk from 10am to 3.30pm Sunday.

Chair of the SPCA Fiji, Seema Deo says they are hoping for a big turnout and invite everyone to join them in a fun day out with your dogs.

There will be food, refreshments for pet owners and their fur friends from some of the ROC Market’s long-time vendors, face painting provided by Sugar Rose for children, a pet show with four different categories and demonstrations from the K9 Obedience team.

You will also have a chance to meet some of SPCA’s Shelter pets and learn more about animal care and what the SPCA and other organisations such as the Ministry of Agriculture do in Fiji.

Those that cannot attend, can participate virtually, make a donation and offer sponsorship.

The programme starts at 10am at the Albert Park carpark in Suva.

The first walk will follow a brief opening ceremony and blessing of the animals.

Walks are scheduled throughout the day alongside other exciting events.

The 1000 Paws Walk honors Tim Howick-Smith, a long-time supporter of SPCA and champion for animal welfare and legislation.

It is aimed at spreading awareness about the well-being of pets and the importance of their welfare in homes and communities.

It also aims to bring awareness to the public that pet interaction and fun is something to be explored by pet owners and their pets to build a happy and trusting relationship.

The funds raised from the walk registrations will be used towards community outreach initiatives to help better and in some cases, save the lives of homeless dogs in our communities.

Support from the public will enable SPCA to provide essential services such as desexing and basic veterinary care, ensuring these animals receive the love and attention they deserve.
