Taveuni Rugby pulled off one of the major upsets in the Skipper Cup Competition, edging Suva 32-31 at Wairiki School Grounds on Saturday.
Taveuni has defied the odds in its first season, beating rugby powerhouse Nadroga in Round 4 and now defeating the Capital City side on its home ground.
Captain Fabiano Rogovakalali acknowledged the strong support from the Vanua, with hundreds of fans turning up to be part of history.
He says they did not have a good start against Suva, but the players regrouped in the second half and came back with unmatched determination to secure the win.
Rogovakalali says this week will be another uphill battle as they host Tailevu. However, they will regroup, restart and refocus as they aim for a place in the quarter-finals.
Taveuni will host Tailevu at Wairiki School Grounds this Saturday.
