Fijian designers Temesia and AZA to showcase at NZ Fashion Week

Two Fijian designers will take the Pacific fashion story to the international stage when they showcase their collections at New Zealand Fashion Week 2026.

Temesia Tuicaumia of TEMESIA and Zulfikar Ali of AZA will present their designs this evening, with support from the Trade and Investment Office - Fiji High Commission New Zealand and Kahui Collective.

TEMESIA, founded by Tuicaumia, is known for combining modern tailoring with traditional Fijian motifs, creating designs that reflect heritage, identity and innovation.

For NZFW 2026, TEMESIA will present “Waves of Legacy”, a collection inspired by the ocean’s importance to Pacific life and the strength of Fijian culture.

Tuicaumia says the collection is a tribute to ancestors and aims to create new conversations in fashion.

He says preparing for the international runway came with challenges, including sourcing sustainable materials and adapting to international standards, but the experience helped push his creative boundaries.

Meanwhile, AZA, led by Zulfikar Ali, will showcase “Island Prism”, a collection highlighting the connection between light, tradition and modern design.

Ali says his goal is to showcase Fiji’s vibrant aesthetic and challenge perceptions of Pacific fashion globally.

He says the journey involved overcoming logistical challenges, refining designs for an international audience and balancing cultural authenticity with global appeal.

The designers’ participation is being supported through a partnership between the Trade & Investment Office - Fiji High Commission New Zealand and Kahui Collective, which has provided access to resources, mentorship and industry networks.

Tuicaumia says the opportunity is not only about showcasing clothing but also about sharing Pacific culture and inspiring future generations of creatives.

Ali says NZFW provides a platform for Fijian stories to be seen and celebrated.

Their participation highlights the growing presence of Pacific designers on the global fashion stage and strengthens creative connections between Fiji and New Zealand.
