Fashion enthusiasts can look forward to some amazing designs being showcased at the 18th Fiji Fashion Week Show, which will be held on the 30th and 31st of May at the Vodafone Arena.

Managing Director for FJFW Ellen Whippy-Knight, revealed this at the official launch of the event, held at Novotel Hotel in Lami yesterday.

She says they have been one of the few fashion shows in the Pacific region to be held consistently over many years, and this year, they are expecting to showcase something different.

The Managing Director revealed that they had received a grant of €69,000 from the European Union, which enabled them to bring in two global designers who trained ten local designers through a 15-week training and development programme at the Fiji National University.

She says the audience would be amazed at the transformation in this year’s designs.

She emphasized that Fashion Week is a platform for designers to present their work to the world, and she is advising emerging designers to pursue education in this field, as it is important for them to understand the concept of design and to know who they are designing for.

The launch featured the works of three designers, who amazed the audience with their incredible collection.

Sue Samuels, Creative Director and the designer behind the label LavaLani Designs, says it was amazing to see her work being appreciated by everyone.

Samuels says she is looking forward to being part of the group of local designers travelling to Australia to attend a workshop, which will help her to prepare designs with global appeal.

Samuels is advising aspiring designers to take risks, and if given the opportunity, they should go and learn from other designers.
