Eight-year-old Merilda Matamlele from Vanuatu wowed the crowd at the Vanuatu Institute of Technology Skills Competition Fashion Show, showcasing her hand-made tropical-style dresses with creativity and confidence.

The Vanuatu Daily Post reports that Merilda, a Year 2 student at Pikinini Play Time School, began sewing at just five years old, guided by her mother and encouraged by her father.

With growing skill, she now independently uses sewing machines to make dresses and tops.

The paper adds that her parents continue to nurture her passion while helping her balance school work with her creative interests.

Merilda’s story highlights how early encouragement and family support can help children discover and develop their talents.
