Volcanic eruption leaves over 340,000 passengers stranded in Indonesia

More than 340,000 passengers have been left stranded across Indonesia after the eruption of Anak Krakatau disrupted nearly 3,000 flights.

The volcano began erupting late Friday, sending volcanic ash towards Jakarta and Lampung province.

Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport remains closed because of volcanic ash near its airspace.

Flights are expected to resume at 4.59am today.

Halim Perdanakusuma Airport will also remain closed until then.

Long queues have formed at Soekarno-Hatta Airport as passengers seek refunds and updates on their flights.
