The Kaiviti Silktails and Melbourne Storm will honour former Storm forward and Fiji Bati captain Tui Kamikamica with the inaugural Tui Kamikamica Bowl this Saturday.
The perpetual bowl will be contested whenever the Silktails and Storm meet, recognising Kamikamica’s contribution to rugby league in Fiji and Australia and the pathway he represents for young Fijian players.
Kamikamica recently announced his immediate retirement from rugby league on medical grounds, bringing an end to an outstanding career that included 142 NRL appearances for Melbourne Storm and 23 Tests for Fiji.
The 32-year-old made his NRL debut in 2017 and went on to become an integral member of the Storm.
He was part of Melbourne’s 2017 and 2020 premiership-winning squads and played in 15 NRL finals matches, including the 2024 and 2025 grand finals.
He was also named Storm’s Most Improved Player in 2019 and was inducted as Melbourne Storm Life Member number 44 in 2026.
Kamikamica moved from Fiji to Australia in 2013, initially joining Parramatta’s Under-20s before continuing his development with the Sunshine Coast Falcons.
He joined Melbourne Storm in 2016 and was appointed captain of the Fiji Bati in 2023.
Kamikamica says having his name attached to the perpetual fixture is a great honour for him and his family.
He says he appreciates the love and support he has received and is looking forward to attending the game.
Kaiviti Silktails CEO Stephen Driscoll says Kamikamica was an ideal choice to be honoured through the Storm fixture.
Driscoll says he has followed Kamikamica’s journey from his early days in Fiji and Australia through to becoming an NRL premiership winner, Melbourne Storm Life Member and Fiji Bati captain.
He says Kamikamica’s journey represents exactly what the Kaiviti Silktails was established to achieve — providing young Fijian players with a pathway to the highest levels of rugby league.
Silktails founder and chairman Petero Civoniceva also says Kamikamica’s career embodies the pathway the club was created to build.
Civoniceva says Kamikamica’s journey from Fiji to the NRL, winning premierships and ultimately captaining his country shows young Fijian players what is possible.
The inaugural Tui Kamikamica Bowl will be played as part of the NSW Jersey Flegg Cup at Churchill Park in Lautoka this Saturday, with kick-off at 11am.
