Island Solar Fiji is installing an 80-kilowatt solar generation system supported by 650 kilowatt-hours of battery storage, allowing electricity generated during daylight hours to be stored and used after sunset.
Island Solar Fiji Director Eddy May says the project was designed to provide the community with a reliable source of renewable energy.
May says the project combines 80 kW of solar generation capacity with 650 kWh of battery storage, allowing energy generated during the day to be stored for use after sunset.
The project will also include solar-powered street lighting and a Starlink Wi-Fi network designed to provide internet access across the community.
He says beyond bringing electricity to homes, the installation is expected to expand access to the internet, creating new opportunities for learning, communication and small businesses in Yadrana and across Lakeba Island.
May says for residents, the combination of reliable renewable power and wider internet access could support everyday activities while opening up new possibilities for education, communication and economic activity.
Installation is currently underway, with Island Solar Fiji progress towards completion of the project.
He says the project represents a significant step towards expanding access to renewable energy and digital connectivity in one of Fiji’s outer island communities.
