The father and son facing murder charges in relation to the death of 38-year-old Vimal Vikash Nand, have been remanded in custody by the Sigatoka Magistrates Court.

51-year-old former national 15s rugby player, Ratu Vula Ratuva, and his son 19-year-old Ratu Kinijoji Ratuva are jointly charged with one count of murder and assault.

Ratu Vula is also facing an additional count of assault.

The case has been transferred to the Lautoka High Court and will be called again on the 27th of this month.

Nand’s funeral was held yesterday.

Police had earlier said that the victim and two 16-year-old students were allegedly assaulted by the two men after they were confronted over an incident involving one of the victim’s farm animals.

The victim was later found unconscious by his brother with injuries.

Police say the three victims were taken to Sigatoka Hospital, where 38-year-old Nand was transferred to Nadi Hospital and later to Lautoka Hospital.

Attempts to revive him proved futile, and he was pronounced dead.
