The jersey worn by Brazilian football legend Pelé during the 1958 FIFA World Cup Final has sold for US$4.88 million at an auction held by Sotheby's, one of the world's leading auction houses.
The shirt was worn by a 17-year-old Pelé when Brazil defeated Sweden 5-2 to win their first FIFA World Cup title.
Pelé scored twice in the final and remains the youngest player to score in a FIFA World Cup Final.
The sale is the highest price ever paid for a Pelé collectible.
Worn during Brazil's first of a record five FIFA World Cup titles, it is now the second most expensive football jersey of all time, behind Argentine legend Diego Maradona's "Hand of God" jersey, which sold for US$9.28 million after being worn during the 1986 FIFA World Cup.
Meanwhile, England will face France in the FIFA World Cup 2026 third-place play-off at 9am on Sunday.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 Final between Argentina and Spain will kick off at 7am on Monday.
