Thomas Markle, the father of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has appeared in court after being charged over the possession of child sex abuse material.
Markle was arrested in Florida this morning after the FBI searched two Los Angeles-area storage units he rented for almost 20 years.
He will be subject to home detention and electronic monitoring after being released by a US judge on personal recognizance, the DoJ and US Attorney's Office in Central California say
Images published by news outlets alongside reports of the 82-year-old's arrest appear to show him in handcuffs surrounded by FBI personnel
Markle has previously denied allegations of possessing images of child sex abuse, calling the claims "sick lies".
The duchess has been estranged from her father since 2018 - in a statement last month, she says she is deeply distressed, her thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed.
She added that she hoped it could be understood why she had largely cut off contact from her father.
