Seven of Fiji’s finest chefs are taking the flavours, creativity and spirit of the islands to Melbourne, Australia, where they will compete against some of the region’s best in the Australian Culinary Federation Restaurant Challenge.
The chefs representing Fiji are Warren Mave in the Global Pastry Chef Challenge, alongside Maurisio and Masi from Laucala Island.
Ifraaz Hussein and Frances Wakeham from Sheraton Resort and Spa will compete in Team Challenge Category One, while Isireli Chong from Wyndham Resort and Filipe Miramira from Yasawa Island Resort will compete in Team Challenge Category Two.
Speaking to fijivillage News, Fiji Chefs Team Manager Kelevi Lalawailevu says the team is looking incredibly sharp and focused, with the energy in camp at an all-time high.
He says months of rigorous training have brought the chefs to peak physical and mental readiness, with their coordination in the kitchen now finely tuned.
Lalawailevu says Warren Mave and his pastry team are completely focused on the Pacific Rim Final, while the kitchen duos are also carrying a quiet confidence into the competition.
He says the chefs know Fijian island flavours are world-class and are excited to show the international culinary community what Fiji can do.
Meanwhile, four Fijian representatives will also assist with the Worldchefs judging panel accompanying Team Fiji.
They include Sheraton Executive Chef Rakesh, Wyndham Executive Sous Chef, Fiji Culinary Director Faruk, and Fiji Chefs Association Vice-President Amar.
The Restaurant Challenge begins tomorrow, and will end on Thursday.
