Nasinu Town Council CEO Felix Magnus says the Council monitors food licences issued to food outlets and will conduct another spot check on food outlets in Nasinu following a complaint about maggots being found in barbecue food purchased from a roadside stall in Valelevu.
Magnus says the quality of food served to consumers is the responsibility of the seller.
He says the consumer should have returned the food to the seller immediately after discovering the issue so that a remedy could be provided.
He is urging the barbecue sellers to see that they always adhere to the health precautionary measures in preparation of food.
Magnus says sellers should wear gloves and have beanies or other head coverings to prevent hair from falling into food.
He says the Council will also re-check food licences during its spot checks.
Magnus is urging all food outlets and barbecue sellers to maintain high standards when preparing food for human consumption.
He says food must be prepared and sold at a high standard without posing health risks to consumers.
