Leadership Fiji donates $5,000 worth of equipment to SPCA.

The Leadership Fiji Community Fund has donated about $5,000 worth of equipment that would assist the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to become self sustainable.

SPCA Vice President, Ken Kassem says they are grateful for the donation that has been provided to make dog treats.

He says they are also very grateful for Leadership Fiji for the support and putting their resources that will build capacity to allow them to go into manufacturing and selling.

Kassem says they have had some delays in getting manufacturing equipment due to COVID-19 but once that comes in, they will begin manufacturing.

Leadership Fiji Community Fund Chairman, Rajesh Patel says they believe in projects that has a sustainable element to it and SPCA has met that criteria.

Patel says they are proud to partner with SPCA in this project.

The equipment includes an oven, a dehydrator, a food processor and a vacuum sealer.

SPCA will be manufacturing dog treats such as beef jerky and kumala treats that can be bought from their office in Walu Bay.

They shelter about 114 cats and dogs.
