Fiji’s first Data Portal aims to improve policy and planning

The Fiji Bureau of Statistics has today launched Fiji’s first Data Portal, which will enable every stakeholder to access data from the comfort of their own zone.

While speaking at the opening event, Deputy Government Statistician Apisalome Tamani said the portal is the bedrock of policymaking, planning, and progress.

Tamani says whether it’s ensuring schools have the resources they need, planning for climate resilience, or tracking the effectiveness of public health campaigns, data enables effective responses and wise resource allocation.

He says this data portal marks a significant leap forward in how information is managed, accessed, and shared across government ministries, civil society, and the private sector.

He emphasised that it represents more than just a digital tool as it reflects a shift in mindset toward openness, interoperability, and evidence-based decision-making.

The Deputy Government Statistician adds that the portal has the potential to break down information silos, eliminate duplication, and enhance collaboration across sectors.
