Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for External Trade, Co-operatives and SMEs, Manoa Kamikamica

The Fiji Government's priority is finding solutions to retain and attract highly skilled professionals in the IT industry as the country is facing the challenge of the mass departure of IT experts causing significant brain drain issues.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, Communications and SMEs Manoa Kamikamica highlighted this while speaking at the AIIA Pacific Islands Digital Capability Uplift Program at the Grand Pacific Hotel this morning.

He says this is a matter of great concern to Fiji, as the loss of highly skilled professionals in the IT sector can have serious implications for our economic growth and competitiveness.

Kamikamica says to do this, we must create an environment that supports the growth and development of the sector, and provides attractive and competitive opportunities for IT professionals.

The Minister adds this means investing in education and training and creating an enabling environment for businesses to grow and innovate so that the IT industry can provide high-quality, high-paying jobs for our citizens.

The Deputy Prime Minister says the new Government will be undertaking a review of Fiji's educational system and institutions that will include assessing Fiji's capacity to train skills in IT and telecommunications.
