Former Kaiviti Silktails prop Watisoni Waqanisaravi has secured a contract extension with French Top 14 club La Rochelle after his planned loan move to Nevers was called off.
Waqanisaravi, who can play at lock and in the back row, was recalled by Ronan O'Gara's coaching staff following a number of injuries in the second row, including to Will Skelton and Salmaan Moerat.
Since then, Waqanisaravi has made three Top 14 appearances, compared with just four league appearances last season.
The former Lelean Memorial School student, who stands 1.95 metres tall and weighs 127kg, has showcased his power since the resumption of the league.
Waqanisaravi says he is delighted to have extended his stay with La Rochelle and is looking forward to continuing his development at the French club.
He thanked the coaching staff for their confidence in him and the fans for their continued support as he looks to make the most of his opportunities this season.
