The Ministry of Education has launched a formal investigation into the disruption to salary payments for 134 teachers.
While responding to a question in Parliament, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro confirmed that a panel of senior officials has completed its review and is submitting its findings and recommendations to the Management Board.
He says the Ministry has also reviewed its payroll and human resources procedures following the disruption.
Radrodro says fortnightly payroll checks have been introduced to identify teachers who may be missing from an upcoming pay run, while reports that flag discrepancies between employee records and payroll data are also being monitored.
He says the Ministry is working to process contract renewals earlier so that teachers’ pay is not interrupted.
When questioned by Chand if the teachers were given an advance notice, Radrodro says he will wait for the report to determine whether the 134 affected teachers were given advance notice.
