Police officers will increase their engagement with communities around the country this week, with a particular focus on keeping children safe during the school holidays.

Police say officers will continue visiting communities and talking to people about staying safe and keeping their homes and surroundings secure.

Parents and guardians are also being encouraged to regularly talk to their children and keep them occupied with holiday assignments and household chores while they are at home.

The community visits come as the National Federation Party calls for increased Police visibility following concerns about robberies, burglaries and attacks on taxi drivers.

NFP President Parmod Chand has called on Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu to increase patrols and targeted operations in areas affected by crime.

Police are also reminding people that they can call 1681 if they need assistance.
