Respectful dialogue, consideration of different perspectives and a commitment to every Fijian's dignity are essential as Fiji continues its constitutional review.
This is the message from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Industries, Commerce and Business Development Manoa Kamikamica in his Diwali message.
Kamikamica says this year's theme, "One Fiji, One Light: Building Understanding, Respect and Unity", reminds Fijians that despite their different faiths and traditions, they share common hopes for peace, opportunity and a better future.
He says Diwali's message of understanding and goodwill is particularly important as the country continues its constitutional review.
Kamikamica says these values also reflect Fiji's economic aspirations, stressing that prosperity must mean more than material wealth and should create secure livelihoods, dignified work and opportunities for families to progress.
He says the Government continues to strengthen entrepreneurship and economic participation through business support, co-operative development and training, particularly in rural and maritime communities.
Kamikamica says Diwali celebrates the triumph of righteousness over evil, knowledge over ignorance and light over darkness.
He also highlights the significance of the return of Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana to Ayodhya, while the blessings associated with Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha and Goddess Saraswati represent prosperity, wisdom, knowledge and new beginnings.
On behalf of his family and the Ministry, Kamikamica extends Diwali greetings to Hindu families in Fiji and abroad, and hopes the festival brings peace and happiness while inspiring all Fijians to treat one another with kindness and respect.
