Time has been given to Saimoni Rokotunidau to get in touch with his counsel, Jerry Dinati, or another lawyer to prepare an affidavit and provide medical records explaining why he failed to appear in court from July 28th to August 13th, when he was apprehended by police.
Rokotunidau appeared before Suva High Court Judge Justice Dane Tuiqereqere.
He is charged with the attempted murder of a female police officer in Laqere and unlawful possession of methamphetamine.
When asked by Justice Tuiqereqere about his medical records, Rokotunidau said he had handed all the documents to Dinati after learning that Dinati would take up his case.
Rokotunidau also told the court that he had asked officers at the Remand Centre to contact Dinati, but they informed him that his phone had been diverted.
He also presented a letter to Justice Tuiqereqere explaining the reasons for his absence from court.
However, the judge told him that he should file an affidavit and that his lawyer could assist him with this.
The case will be called again at 9.30am this Friday for an update on bail.
Rokotunidau has been remanded in custody.
