The high number of youths involved in stealing is a concern, with police seeing a cycle where some repeat offenders return to similar crimes after being released.
While highlighting this, Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says most of the youths involved are opportunists and the incidents are not necessarily planned robberies.
He says Police are doing their part by following up on videos sent by members of the public, verifying the footage and identifying suspects.
Tudravu says suspects are arrested and taken to court, but some are released on bail, while others are convicted, serve their time and later return to similar offences.
He says this cycle needs to be looked at by other stakeholders, as it is not something Police can address alone.
Tudravu has also thanked members of the public for sending videos of stealing incidents from around the country.
He says the videos are a great help to police investigations because officers cannot be everywhere at all times.
